Martyn of the Shadows

Martyn is one of the most enigmatic and sinister figures in The Pangean Chronicles, known by many simply as Martyn of the Shadows. A once-powerful sorcerer or demon—his true origin remains shrouded—Martyn plays a key role in the rise of Satanicus. It is he who nurtures and protects the Dark Lord’s early form, harvesting souls and amassing dark power in preparation for his return. Martyn is a master manipulator and a hoarder of ancient knowledge, with a body that exists in a near-ghostly state, sustained only by the souls he collects. His voice is serpentine and persuasive, but beneath his eerie charm lies a being driven by obsession and fear.

While Martyn helped to bring Satanicus into the world, he is one of the few who seems genuinely unsettled by the boy’s power—perhaps even regretting what he has unleashed. Yet his hunger for influence, and the fear of being discarded, keeps him tethered to the very darkness he helped forge. He rarely acts openly, preferring to influence others from the shadows, manipulating events across Pangea from behind the veil. As the war escalates, Martyn remains a dangerous wildcard—secretive, cunning, and possibly the only one who truly understands the magnitude of what is coming.
